ROME, Vendredi 29 avril 2011 (ZENIT.org) - A l'occasion de la béatification de Jean-Paul II, un nouveau service est proposé aux pages web catholiques : la possibilité de créer, avec un simple clic, sa propre Web TV, avec des évènements en direct (comme la béatification de Jean-Paul II) et des vidéos on demand (nouvelles, interviews et reportages).
Il s'agit d'une nouvelle initiative gratuite lancée par le Centre de Télévision du Vatican, Radio Vatican et l'agence multimédia H2onews.

UNECE’s Working Group on Ageing held its third annual meeting on November 22nd and 23rd to discuss issues surrounding ageing in the region.
The Working Group agreed to organize a Regional Ministerial Conference on Ageing, to be held in Vienna in September 2012, on the tenth anniversary of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing and the adoption of its regional implementation strategy in Berlin. The conference will allow ministers to review progress and decide on future directions for making and implementing policies on ageing.

This should prepare them to work effectively with older people regardless of the setting. Summary
The present report focuses on the situation of the human rights of older persons in all regions in the world. It offers an overview of some challenges faced by older women and men in the enjoyment of their rights and outlines examples of government responses to these challenges. It also offers an illustrative collection of legislation, policies and programmes and describes key human rights issues including but not limited to discrimination, violence and abuse, social protection, long-term care, age-specific services, participation, access to justice and life-long pensions.

The Women's UN Report Program & Network (WUNRN) is a non-governmental organization to implement the conclusions and recommendations of a United Nations Study on Freedom of Religion of Belief and the Status of Women From the Viewpoint of Religion and Traditions (E/CN.4/2002/73/Add.2). This study is a major, universal, comprehensive U.N. approach to intolerance and discrimination against women based on religion and traditions.

To strengthen the nexus between women's rights and freedom of religion or belief, it is important to build on the Juridical and Factual Aspects of this study by research, plans of action and practical projects. Adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2002, the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) was a stepping stone towards recognizing the rights and potential of older persons. Since then, progress has been made in introducing new policies on ageing in several countries, but in most the implementation has been inefficient or even non-existent. Now is the time for older people to take action and remind their governments about MIPAA. What can YOU do to make the changes happen?

Ageing populations will have large repercussions for EU labour markets, economic growth, and public finances. Ageing, however, is not a "tsunami" that will overwhelm public finances when the baby boom generation start to retire some years from now. It is a slow-moving, largely predictable, process which is therefore manageable provided policy makers act in an efficient and timely manner.

Over the past several years, governments from Latin and Central America as well as the Caribbean have tried to win passage of a Resolution defining the human rights of older persons through the Organization of American States (OAS) headquartered in Washington, DC. After intense lobbying from their citizens, the governments of the United States and Canada decided to vote with the consensus and the resolution can move forward! With consensus support the measure will pass very soon. Another step forward in the effort to secure a human rights protection for older people everywhere! El grupo de trabajo ha sido creado por la Asamblea General y su Resolución 65/182 del 21 de diciembre de 2010, para analizar el estado de la situación actual de los derechos de las personas mayores en el marco internacional; e identificar las posibles deficiencias y abordar el asunto lo mejor posible, en particular reflexionando, si es necesario, sobre la puesta en marcha de nuevas medidas y de nuevos proyectos. Pueden participar las delegaciones de las organizaciones no gubernamentales que sean particularmente activas en el campo del envejecimiento.

de solucionarlas, incluso mediante el estudio, cuando corresponda, de la viabilidad de nuevos instrumentos y medidas, y solicita al Secretario General que preste a ese grupo de trabajo todo el apoyo necesario, dentro de los límites de los recursos existentes, mientras dure su mandato;

Number of persons aged 60 or over In 2009, an estimated 737 million persons were aged 60 years or over and constituted the "older population" of the world, nearly two thirds of whom lived in developing countries. Their number is projected to increase to 2 billion in 2050, by which time older persons will outnumber children (persons aged Oto 14 years). Today, more than half of the older population lives in Asia (54 per cent) and a fifth lives in Europe (21 per cent).
Population aged 60 or over as a percentage of the total population Today, one out of every nine persons in the world is aged 60 or over By 2050, the United Nations Population Division projects that one person out of every five will be aged 60 or overo The percentage of older persons is currently higher in developed countries. In Europe, one in every five persons is already aged 60 or over The equivalent proportions are one in ten in Asia and in Latin America and the Caribbean, and one in 19 in Africa. However, population ageing is advancing faster in developing countries than in developed countries where population ageing is more advanced.
The oldest old The older population is itself ageing. Currently, the oldest old (persons aged 80 years or over) constitute 14 per cent of the population aged 60 or overo The oldest old constitute one of the fastest growing segment of the population and, by 2050, 20 per cent of the older population will be aged 80 or over The number of centenarians (persons aged 100 years or over) is growing even faster than the oldest old and is projected to increase nine-fold by 2050, from approximately 454.000 in 2009 to 4,1 mullion in 2050. Old-age support ratio The old-age support ratio is the number of persons aged 15 to 64 per person aged 65 years or over It is an indicator of demographic ageing and of the degree of dependency of older persons on potential workers. The old-age support ratio fell from 12 persons aged 15 to 64 for every person aged 65 or over in 1950 to 9 in 2009 and is projected to fall to 4 persons of working age per person aged 65 or over in 2050. The level of the old-age support ratio has important implications for the solvency of social security systems (pensions and public health), as well as for the size of private transfers from the working-age population to older family members.

Considered no longer reproductively or economically useful, many older women are seen as a burden to their families and communities while their status is ignored by policy-makers.

A ce jour il n’y a aucun document international contraignant sur la vieillesse ou les femmes âgées.
Les femmes âgées, n’étant plus considérées utiles en terme reproductif et économique, sont souvent considérées comme une charge pour leurs familles et leurs communautés, alors que leur statut est un problème que les politiques préfèrent ignorer.

No existe aún ningún texto jurídico internacional de carácter obligatorio que recoja la problemática de los adultos mayores o el de las mujeres de edad.
Pasada la edad de tener hijos o ganar dinero, muchas mujeres mayores son consideradas como una carga para sus familias o comunidades. Además, los políticos ignoran el tema de modo que estas mujeres estén marginadas, aisladas e incluso abandonadas.
